Grant Rivers
Grant Rivers is a seasoned actor making waves as one of Hollywood’s senior working talents, known for his standout roles in high-profile music videos and commercials. Among his most notable accomplishments, Grant starred as the romantic lead opposite Suki Waterhouse in her hit single On This Love, a video with nearly a million views and coverage in Rolling Stone. He also charmed audiences as the comical grandfather in Canadian breakout artist Devon Cole’s video Play House. In addition to music videos, Grant has appeared in major commercial campaigns for brands including Toyota, the LA Lakers, Puff Vapes, Belli Welli, and Seventh Generation—earning a prolific acting résumé.
Born Gordon Schaye in New York City in 1938, Grant distinguished himself early by winning first prize at the New York City Science Fair and earning a scholarship to Princeton University. He later attended medical school, ultimately becoming an ear, nose, and throat specialist with practices in Gramercy Park and Southern California. During his decades-long medical career, he treated numerous actors and singers with vocal issues and served annually on a vocal health symposium panel at The Juilliard School. In California, he co-founded Health Care Partners, which became the largest private medical group in the U.S., allowing him to retire after 49 years in medicine.
In a bold late-life pivot, Grant decided to pursue acting—rebranding himself as Grant Rivers. Despite his wife Carmen’s initial skepticism, within seven years he had landed some seventy roles in short films and commercials, often appearing alongside major stars. His niche quickly became senior character roles, and his expressive performances have made him a favorite in visually impactful, story-driven projects.
Together with Carmen—now known as Chanel Rivers—they co-founded Grant Rivers Productions LLC and produced the TV pilot Helen and Harold: Wrong Turn, selected for both the New York TV Film Festival and Mexico City’s Mirada Corta Film Festival. Chanel, a professor at Cal State University and a Biden appointee to the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board, has recently joined Grant on-screen, and the couple continues to create, perform, and inspire in their next chapter together.
